Dr. Shendl Tuchman is a Licensed Psychologist, working primarily with families experiencing the difficulties of divorce as she helps them make the transition from a pre- to a post-divorce family. It is her belief that the ending of a relationship is an emotional decision with legal and financial implications, not a legal and financial decision with emotional consequences. Starting with this understanding changes the focus and often the outcome of a divorce proceeding by decreasing the conflict through recognition of the feelings that are driving the process. She works with parents to develop parenting plans that meet the needs of their children and both parents and specializes in the unique issues experienced in blended families. Her scope of practice includes Integrative Mediation, Non-Recommending and Recommending Mediation, Collaborative Divorce, Co-Parenting Therapy, Family Therapy, including those with children who resist or refuse to see a parent. She also provides individual and couples therapy.
Dr. Tuchman believes Integrative Mediation is a very productive way to work out the differences facing couples as they re-structure their families. An attorney and mental health professional can work synergistically with both parties to provide a brighter future for both the children and their parents. Dr. Tuchman is a board member of Integrative Mediation Bay Area. She is a past board member and chair of Collaborative Practice East Bay and a past board member of the Contra Costa Psychological Association.
